Problems with Fees and Charges (664 reviews)
Great plan, Poor service
“ My first bill was not sent to the address I provided as my billing/mailing address, hence much communication and complication to get them to remove the late fees and finally to get things sent to the correct address. At signup GME made a great offer of a Gift Card. BUT instead of them giving it to me after I met the qualifications, it took months of applications, phone calls and emails to finally get the gift card. Maybe they hassle enough so many people give up and GME doesn't have to ever release it. Last straw - my next door neighbor has just spent 6 days with no power because GME did not inform them there was another step to the payment they thought they had made, even though GME could see the payment on their system. I am switching in a couple weeks when my contract is up. Disappointing, but I can go Green with someone who will also provide better customer service. ”

Dishonest about billing - not reading actual meter
“ I've been a customer of reliant for about 2 years. And every year in the month of December, I leave my home for 10+ days in order to visit family. And every time I've done this, Reliant charges me a higher bill than I had in previous months for that period of time. I've called them twice about this, and each time the representative lies and says they are reading my individual meter. This is impossible! The first time they charged my $2.50 to read it again, and of course they came up with the exact same reading. Because I was gone for so long, it would stand to reason my bill would be lower since I completely shut off the heat when I was away. I also don't ever use Christmas lights. I live in an apartment complex and figured they are simply averaging my bill with the other residents.- However, they deny this. If they just admitted to what they were doing, I could accept it. But they insist on lying about reading the meter. When I move into my new home, I will definitely not use Reliant. They are dishonest about their billing. You are not being charged for the actual energy you consume. You are simply being charged for what they "think" you should be using! And since I'm moving into an energy efficient home with bills that should average $125 all year round, I would rather not be charged what Reliant thinks I should pay (which will no doubt be $100 to $150 more than what I actually owe). This is a dishonest company, if you can help it do not get your electricity through them!!! ”

Bad pricing and billing
“ First, let me start with the positive. This company has good customer service. The reps are friendly and tried to help with the situation. As for their billing and pricing it is awful. The bill makes no sense. I set an account up for my mother's house and I get my service from Green Mountain, so I know what to look for on the bills. The issues with the bill are nothing compared to their pricing. They offer a low rate that DOES NOT INCLUDE charges for minimum use and add ons from the utility. So instead of getting a great deal as promised, I am paying more at my mother's house than my own. I complained to the BBB and the PUC against this company, but little happened as a result. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! ”

Terrible Experience
“
Customer of 3 years. They sent me a
"disconnect notice" because of payments they
claim were missing from LAST YEAR. The
payments were made from my check card, and were
not returned, but they "don't know where they
went". I sent them documentation I made the
payments, as they requested, then they asked me
to send them a current bank statement showing
they didn't credit me anything this month.
WHAT? First, you write off something from last
year if you "can't find it and can't prove
where it went" That's your problem, not mine!
Then when I prove I made the payments, you
can't ask me for a bank statement just so you
can review my charges! When I told them I was
calling a lawyer because, they started clearing
it all up. After 3 days of this! Still in the
process, but will be cancelling my service at
the end of this contract for sure! ”
