Problems with Fees and Charges (657 reviews)
Signed up for 7.7cents/kw paid much more than that when my bill arrived
“ Buried somewhere in the fine print is a clause that allows them to charge me way more than I thought because I am a very high volume electricity consumer. So my bill ended up being twice as much as my previous provider who charges the fee they quoted (9.4cents/kw) regardless of the amount used. Consequently; I will be paying the cancellation fee and switching to another provider. ”

Ok
“ I have Green Mountain Energy now. Everything was going well until I tried paying my bill online at my 4th month. Card Declined. Okay, I payed again called great mountain. Called bank to confirm my info was right. It was. And I charged my bank account three times. And I did the math it didn't add up. I paid on time so no charges should be extra. And I'm really disappointed...I sent green mountain my bill , and bank statements and I haven't heard back from them. I doubt they really care. I'm sure they will enjoy my extra money.. Going to be switching soon. ”

they all get your money one way or another
“ the reviews here for reliant energy are mostly unfavorable...yes, there are some cheaper plans out there, but doing the comparisons takes a great deal of time, and in the end, there are added fees or a difference in a disconnect or change fees that make up for a few cents per kw hour rate..i have been a customer of reliant energy since the start,as i had houston lighting and power before that who changed to reliant energy, who is now reliant energy an nrg company..sum total it comes to well over 30 years at different residences..their telephone customer service is ok,not great, but at least they answer the phone..if you have a problem, you are referred to centerpoint energy who actually handles the transmission of the electricity and any outages, and their telephone reps can be rude..reliant is basically just the billing name or so i was told,,in fact, centerpoint handles most of the electric companies you can choose from and they read the "smart meters"...if you rplan was changed to something "similar" to what you had (this has happened to me a few times)it is because of changes in regulations and lately , because of the new smart meters that can be read from the street..i am disappointed they no longer have the "wind driven" power, but if you want that, it is about 14.5 cents per kw with the other companies...overall reliant is as good as the others...i will have the newest "nights and weekends" plan when my contract expires, so i may change my mind!! ”

Not what I expected.
“ I signed up with greenmountain energy almost a year ago. I must admit, due to hardship, I pay my bill right before the disconnection date of the notice that is mailed out. The disconnection notice fee was $15.00 and now it is $20.00 plus an additional $8.99 late fee and a $3.24 charge that makes no sense to me. I do not understand why they charge $20.00 to send out a peice of paper, stamp, and envelope worh less than $1.00. I recently called due to a hardship to request more time to pay my past due amount. Well, I was told that because I was late too often there was nothing anyone could do for me. I was so shocked. My services have never been disconnected although I have paid late often. In these hard economic times I thought they would at least understand. Well I was definitely wrong. I, nor anyone else is who not perfect, is a valued customer and this is just another example of corporate greed. The rates are ok but the hidden fees are a mess. Plus variable rates. ”

Ordering from Infinite Energy
“ As I was approaching the end of the contract I had with Star-Tex Power (Constellation), I approached IE because they offered a fixed low price for a lengthy period of time. On or about August 9, 2018, I called to enroll with them and asked for a start date of August 24 so as not to incur any charges from exiting too soon from STP. I was assured that would be done. At 4:00 p.m. that afternoon I received an email from IE thanking me for choosing them and informing me that I was already enrolled. When I contacted IE again, they informed me that their system automatically selects "first available." When I informed them that I was explicitly told that my service with them would not begin until August 24 (which they confirmed from their own record of the conversation), they had to begin a rather convoluted process of switching me back to STP for approximately two weeks and then reestablishing my service with them. In my opinion, this was completely unnecessary and should have been handled in a more conscientious way. ”
