Disconnect Fees and Problems (441 reviews)
Terrible online functionality and customer service for bill payment
“ Most utilities are easy to pay online. The Constellation system is clunky and unreliable. Our service was almost disconnected due to their failure to set up credit card billing properly. Long holds and unreliable customer service. GasSouth has been much, much better. ”

No longer a customer but a cash cow
“ Been using ambit for close to a decade and they have only gotten progressively worse. Just recently received an email saying my statement was ready. Go to pay it and it says we owe 0.00 We just moved and we're only going to be billed 13 days so we thought, oh well, we'll see it on our first full bill surely. Checked several more times throughout the day just to be sure and then went ahead and processed a zero dollar payment (which cost us 2.50) Recieved a disconnect notice in the mail today saying we're past due on 80 bucks. No biggie but why the discrepancy? So my wife and I call the 1-800 number get a guy who barely speaks English tell us that yes indeed we owe the money and the bill most have been lost in the mail and blames USPS. We're on paperless billing, so that's not the case. I explained I tried to pay but YOUR payment portal says I dont owe. Then I get blamed for not paying it and have to start over with my on time payments. I ask to speak to someone else and he refused several times before I just started saying I want to speak to a manager over and over again. Then I hold for the "manager" who just really didn't care. He also audibly set down his phone and didn't respond for a full 1-2 minutes. I asked if he set the phone down, he swears he didn't. Then proceeds to blame shift again. I asked to speak to his manager in which he said he's THE manager (yeah right) offered no apology for the discrepancy which is on their end, no solutions to my on time payment record which is now ruined and no resolution before he hung up on me. If you are dumb enough to use this company pay very close attention to your plans expiration date because they will not notify you and the bill you get will be EXPONENTIALLY more than normal. Happened to us twice. It's just a MLM pyramid scheme and they'll promise you the world trying to get you to sign up but when it comes time to deliver.... nothing. Hidden charges and backwards car salesmen math ”

Crooked business
“ They loose your cancellation notice and pile on fee after fee after fee. If you attempt to call to resolve the issue, they will disconnect your call continuously or lie about calling you back after am investigation. You will never receive a call back. They also like to send out billing notices after the last day to pay without penalty yo ensure they connect late fees. Very crooked business practices and extremely poor customer service. ”

Do not sign up for Average Billing in the Summer
“ I signed up for average billing with Reliant effective in September 2019 and realized in October that the average billing amounts were estimated way to high. Since I had started with Reliant in August, they were using just that one month as the average billing amount for my October bill. Anyone living in Texas knows that the August is the hottest month and the highest bill, not the average. I did not sign up for average billing to keep paying my highest bill of the year in the cooler months. Therefore, I began paying only for my actual usage and paid it in full about two weeks early. I did not anticipate receiving a late penalty or a disconnect notice in November for not paying over and above what was due for my actual usage. The deferred balance is my own money to be held by Reliant (with no interest) for credit to future usage. Other utility companies Ive used have not done this. If I dont have extra to pay that month, I just dont get the credit to lower my bill later. Reliant has not seen reason on this issue and I will be contacting the Public Utility Commission. ”
