Billing Problems and Complaints (611 reviews)
Excellent Customer Service
“
I was quite upset a few days ago when I received my natural gas monthly invoice and the AP&G rate was about twice what the utility company's rate would have been. It was the second month in a row of this drastic increase, and the heating season had just begun.
I vented my steam to the customer service representative who answered my call. I explained that I had called last month and noted this jump in my rate, far more than UGI's rate. Mr. John Neesham, my contact, immediately emphasized with my situation and talked me down with some research into what had happened last month. He noted that a change in my rate had been ordered, but postulated that the change had not taken effect because this past month's billing cycle had already begun. He gave me a personal guarantee that if the new, "lower-than-UGI's-rate" did not show up in next month's invoice AP&G would make it right with me even if I elected to exercise my right to cancel at that time.
John is a gentleman with a calm demeanor, and is well suited for his customer service position. As a former hospital administrator I know these qualities work best in dealing with the public, and AP&G is fortunate to have Mr. Neesham representing them. ”

Overcharge their long-term customers and will charge you at end of your contract
“ Have been with Reliant for 6 years. Every year, they would increase my rate for the same plan. I realized that they charge about 1.5x the rate of their competitors for comparable services so I decided to switch providers when my latest contract expired on 9/10. Two days after my contract expired, I received an email confirmation stating that my contract had ended and that I would no longer receive power from Reliant because I had switched providers on the day my contract expired. I paid my final bill and thought that was it. I just received another bill today for an additional $117. I contacted Reliant and they stated that the bill was due to an excess usage charge of 1300 kwh that I had supposedly used on 9/9 - 9/10 (1 day of service). I argued with them saying that there was no way I could use 1300 kwh in a single day when that was my usual MONTHLY usage. They said the usage was reported by TDSP so I went on the Smart Meter Texas website and found that I had only used 40-45 kwh everyday for the past month, including the dates in question. I ended up paying the bill because I was tired of arguing with Reliant and they were not offering any resolutions. All I know is that this entire experience provided reassurance that I made the correct decision in changing providers. I will be communicating to whoever I can to not use Reliant because not only do their upcharge their customers, they are dishonest in their billing practices. ”

Good ride for 10 months
“ Had some billing issues early on, but not exactly providers fault. All in all everything was great, however as always good things don't last. Provider probably won't make my current plan available on renewal as it was more likely promotional to attract business, so will have to look for affordable options elsewhere to keep costs in check ”

No problems, medium price levels
“ Not the least expensive but have never had a problem in terms of unexpected billing or other issues. Essentially, they are a trade off of paying a bit more for the energy with less hassle - depends on what you prioritize ”
