So, if you\u2019re about to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyenergyratings.com\/electricity-rates\" target=\"_blank\">compare Syracuse electricity<\/a> prices to find a new provider, you\u2019re going to want to consider the\u00a0following\u00a0numbers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/documents.dps.ny.gov\/public\/MatterManagement\/CaseMaster.aspx?MatterCaseNo=17-E-0238&amp;submit=Search\" target=\"_blank\">National Grid has requested<\/a>\u00a0delivery charge increases of 21.8% for electricity and 24.8% for natural gas. That averages out to<a href=\"http:\/\/www.syracuse.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2017\/05\/national_grids_upstate_ny_electric_rates_were_below_yes_below_--_us_average_in_2.html\" target=\"_blank\"> $11 more for electricity and $10 for natural gas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Again \u2014that increase doesn\u2019t effect the price you pay for the electricity or natural gas itself. This is just the delivery charge. Which means, everyone who relies on National Grid\u2019s poles, wires, and pipes will get hit.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, National Grid plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/www9.nationalgridus.com\/niagaramohawk\/a3-1_news2.asp?document=11005\" target=\"_blank\">phase in new rates<\/a> through a multi-year agreement to mitigate customer impact. The rate hike is said to support the company\u2019s investing of $2.7 billion over the next three years in its core electricity and gas networks across upstate New York, including advanced metering systems, improvements to distributions, and demonstration projects.<\/p>\n<p>But if you\u2019re looking for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyenergyratings.com\/electricity-rates\" target=\"_blank\">cheapest electricity in Utica<\/a>\u00a0this spring, there\u2019s no guarrantee the increase <em>will<\/em> happen.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because the New York State Public Service Commission will determine whether the rate increase is proper and only then will it decide on how much the increase might be and how soon it will rise.
